Wost Day..By Kathy Neise

Teri slammed her purse and the mail onto the kitchen table. This had to have been the worst day of her life. It didn’t help matters any that today was Monday. She sighed and took off her suit coat and threw it on the table over her things, reached for the phone and called her voice mail. There was only one message; from her fiancĂ© Gavin.
“Honey it’s me. I’ve got a few minutes this morning before finishing up at the site. I wanted to let you know I’ll be home tonight on United, uh, let me see here, flight 487 arriving at 6:30. I can’t wait to see my pretty lady. I’ve been missing you something fierce. If we get done early, I'll try to catch an earlier flight, but if not, I’ll see you at the airport at 6:30. Love you.” She hastily scribbled the information on the back of the electric bill’s envelope.
At least there is going to be a happy ending to this horrible day. Teri smiled and headed to the bathroom. There would be just enough time to take a much-needed bath before leaving to pick up Gavin. She unbuttoned her blouse and attempted to fill the bathtub with water. Her efforts were rewarded with the handle breaking off in her hand and water pouring out of her faucet. Oh God, please not this too, she begged as she attempted to replace the handle and turn the water off, but to no avail. She bit her lip to keep from crying as she picked up the phone to call the apartment rental office. A recording informed her that the office was now closed, but there was a number she could call for emergency maintenance. She hung up and redialed the pager number, leaving her number after the beep. She then went into the bedroom and changed into her sweats and favorite tee-shirt.
The day had all the ear markings of being a bad day. She woke up late, her alarm set to pm instead am. She couldn’t tame her long, naturally curly hair into anything fashionable, so she had to pull it up into a clip that promptly broke. Then she couldn’t find a rubber band for a ponytail, so she quickly braided it and used a barrette to hold the ends--after she had put a run in not one, but two brand new pairs of pantyhose and stuck her eye with the mascara wand. Running out of the house, she almost twisted her ankle on the welcome mat and then stepped into a puddle on the way to her car.
Not having time for breakfast, Teri stopped at Stardollars for a latte and a muffin. She had just pulled out of the coffee shop’s parking lot when the car in front of her decided to stop suddenly. Teri slammed on the brakes and half of her drink sloshed onto her chest. She did her best to sop it up with napkins and the paper bag the muffin came in when she noticed that the muffin was raisin and not chocolate chip. Being allergic to raisins, she disappointedly reasoned that she would not be having breakfast this morning.
Work was no better as she walked into the filing cabinet with one leg and her desk with the other. She got a paper cut on her index finger and her computer crashed in the middle of typing her report, and, of course, it had not backed up her work. Marsha felt sorry for Teri and bought her a piece of pizza from downstairs that burnt her mouth and tongue. Teri tried to subdue her screaming mouth with the cup of soda, only to discover it was flat and a piece of pepperoni fell into her lap. The afternoon was a bit better, considering she only spilled toner on the floor after stapling her sleeve to her report.
Ring! Ring! The phone broke Teri’s thoughts. She went to pick it up.
“Hello?”
“Yeah, someone paged maintenance,” a male voice responded.
“Yes, that was me. I’m Teri Sanders in 4C. My bathtub faucet handle broke and I can’t turn off the water.”
The man chuckled slightly. “I can see how that could be a problem. I’ll be over in about ten minutes.”
“Thank you,” Teri replied and hung up the phone. Gavin was coming home today. She couldn’t believe that it had only been a week since he left. She sat down on the sofa and pictured Gavin’s warm face and laughing eyes. He was a software maintenance supervisor for a Fortune 500 company, and, as such, traveled all over the country troubleshooting and upgrading. This job in Boston had taken longer than he thought and he had to stay over the weekend in order to get it finished. Their wedding was only six months away and she was looking forward to two whole weeks of Gavin without his beeper. He had already promised her to leave it at home when they went to Jamaica for their honeymoon.
A bath being out of the question now, she turned on the TV and leaned back into the sofa. Pictures of tiny firemen and rescue workers worked to contain a blaze surrounded by charred earth. A disembodied voice explained the situation.
“Once again, we are looking at a live shot of United flight 487 from Boston. It crash-landed about forty-five minutes ago in a field in Massachusetts, just minutes after take off from Logan. Home video captured the last few minutes of the flight...”
Teri watched in horror as the plane on TV plummeted to earth and exploded into a fireball. She leapt off of the couch and ran to the kitchen table. No, no, it can’t be true, she argued as she reached for the envelope. With shaky fingers, she picked it up and forced herself to look at the hastily written note. United 487 6:30 in her handwriting confirmed her suspicions. The phone rang and Teri jumped. She dropped the envelope to the floor and tried to calm herself as she answered it.
“H-h-hello?”
“Teri, this is Ted the Maintenance guy. I need to stop by the office real quick and get my tools and then I’ll be up to fix your faucet.
“What?” Teri’s shock kept her from comprehending what the man was saying.
“I just said that I’m stopping by the office real quick to get my tools and then I’ll be up to fix your faucet.”
“Yes, yes, ok,” she mumbled as the phone went dead on the other end. Teri walked back to the TV as the voice reentered her consciousness.
“It is believed that there are no survivors, and, as you can see by the severity of the wreckage, it would be nearly impossible for anyone to have survived such a violent crash. Again, you’re looking at live footage of United flight 487...” Teri reached for the remote and clicked it off.
Tears streamed down her face as she fought to get air into her lungs. Certainly, he wouldn’t have been on that flight. Maybe he got that earlier flight and was going to surprise her. That has to be it--that must be it. She began pacing the living room, commanding herself to believe that Gavin was alive and not dead on some farmer’s field in Massachusetts. She had reached the opposite wall for about the hundredth time when two knocks on her front door caused her to stop. She wiped her face with the bottom of her tee-shirt and tried to take a deep breath and calm herself. As she approached the door, a man’s voice called out to her.
“Teri?”
Teri shuddered slightly as she opened the door.

Set Him Free..by Khisses

I didn't expect that he became a part of my life, but i guess it could be. I can still remember the first day we talked on the phone, we begun to know each other by asking some question. I cannot deny the fact, that the time I came to know him,I was so very happy. But I don't know why? Everynight we talked on the phone, and there's something I cannot explained, my heart beat. Maybe I'm just nervous. But I asked my self, why I should be nervous?.I try not to talk to him for a day, but I realize I was wrong. When the days come, that's the time my heart said I'm longing for him. Everytime his asking me for some advice specially when it comes to love, I'm willing to give the best I can, co'z I want him to be happy. Even though I know in myself his hurting me. I don't have the right to act such things that I know I'll be bothering him, so I just decide to keep my feelings towards him. I tried to tell to him my feelings but I can't, co'z I was afraid to lose him or even our friendship. But I'll stop and think for I while, why I should need to tell to him this such stupid thing, that I know from the start that he will never be mine. His just hurting me. Maybe his not the right one for me. But at list we're good friends. And now his happy with someone else that he really love, all I wish for him is happiness. To be honest it's really, really hard for me to let go of him, but I need to sacrifice co'z I really love him. If this is the only thing that I can make him happy, I think I really have to "Set Him Free".
